Lancaster, Pa., Fort Myers, Fla., and Sarasota, Fla., were ranked the top three places in the United States to retire in an analysis by U.S. News & World Report. Top criteria included the happiness of local residents; housing affordability; tax rates; and healthcare quality. In addition to many cities in Florida and Texas, the list includes such diverse locations as Grand Rapids, Mich.; both Portland, Maine and Portland, Ore.; Indianapolis; and Des Moines, Iowa.
