The national homeownership rate is as low as ever, sitting at only 63.5 percent. NAHB Eye On Housing produced a few maps that show county-level variations in the rates.
Most counties have homeownership rates above the mean rate of 71.4 percent, but dense metro areas and most of the state of California have rates well below the mean.
