Kitchen and bath products manufacturer Kohler has developed a new smart toilet that is designed for consumers who love the look and design of the units but may not have access to electrical outlets.

Avoir is a battery powered tankless toilet that does not require access to electrical outlet. Instead, the unit uses only four AA batteries to power the toilet for one year. It’s “an excellent solution for those who love the look and design of Intelligent Toilets but may not have access to electrical outlets,” the company says.

In recent years, smart or intelligent toilets have become a hot category as domestic and international manufacturers strive to produce products that offer whiz bang tech features such as automatic opening, automatic flush, seat warming, night light, music, and personal cleaning. Aimed at increasing the comfort and convenience for homeowners, the products often offer remote control via a panel or even app-control via mobile device.

In addition to Koher, smart toilet brands include Toto, American Standard, Icera, DXV, Duravit, Woodbridge Bath, Dyconn, and Aida Corp. But smart toilets require AC power to run many new features, making them relatively expensive to buy and install in a remodeling situation. Which is why Kohler says its new Avoir is a game-changing introduction.

“A new platform in the tankless toilet space, Avoir is designed to blend seamlessly into any space and provides an enhanced design aesthetic,” the company says.

The toilet is equipped with the company’s Readylock system for easy installation process and corrugated base template for alignment, which helps installers with lifting/setting the toilet properly in a tight space. It also comes with a Quiet Close Seat and Cover hinge mechanism and fully skirted design for easy cleaning and maintenance.

In addition, the high-efficiency unit uses 1.28 gallons per flush, and comes with an optional remote single-button actuator with light, which can be placed anywhere in the bathroom. A back-up actuator located on the toilet includes an emergency button in the event of battery failure, the company says.

Available in white, Dune, and black, the Avoir features a water surface area measuring 12 inches by 9½ inches; a Qaud jet flush engine innovation that the company says results in a powerful swirl flush for maximum bowl cleanliness;

Launched at the 2020 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, the Avoir was one of handful of new toiets that Kohler released at the show. The introductions include Brazn, Reach, Harken, Veil, San Souci, and Reach Up models.

Each new toilet is a one-piece, skirted design solution for any bathroom.

  • Brazn: Inspired by the modernist movement, the Brazn toilet combines the simplicity of minimalism with functional solutions to create a modern aesthetic.
  • Reach: Boasting soft curves, the Comfort Height Reach toilet offers a transitional style with modern flair. The Reach also provides exceptional flush performance with the AquaPiston flushing technology.
  • Harken: With a hint of traditional detail in balanced form and proportion in modern taste, Harken brings elevated elegance and sophistication to the bath or powder room, Kohler says. Several of the new models feature a solution to address the growing demand for cleansing seats: Designed with a channel carved into the toilet to house and hide the cord of a cleansing seat, these new toilets are compatible with cleansing seat models C3-430 and C3-420, along with future cleansing seat launches within the Kohler portfolio.
  • Veil: Sculpted with flowing and balanced curves, the Veil toilet offers a bold minimalist style. Veil joins a toilet family that includes wall-hung and intelligent models.
  • San Souci: With sleek curves and a low-profile silhouette, the San Souci one-piece toilet has been a popular choice and now offered with the hidden cord capability and easy-to-clean skirted design.
  • ReachUp: The ReachUp toilet features a modern design, with an extended skirt for a cleaner, more connected design.
