New Townhome Community Provides Affordable Housing Option for Austin Residents
A new townhome community in South Austin, Texas, is giving families the opportunity to access affordable housing. Built in partnership with affordable housing developer Industry ATX and local construction firm Citadel Development Group, the 23-unit Industry SOMA aims to address concerns over high housing costs in the area with home prices starting at $270,000, nearly half of the metro-area average of $496,688, according to Zillow.
The community is also built in full compliance with the City of Austin’s Safe, Mixed-Income, Accessible, Reasonably-priced, Transit-Oriented (S.M.A.R.T.) housing program and serves households earning at or below 80% of the median household income.
Designed by architecture firm Mark Odom Studio, the townhomes range from 1,042 to 1,208 square feet with three- to four-bedroom floor plans available. Each unit also features an enclosed backyard and a carport, in additon to communal outdoor space.
Industry SOMA is a vibrant community of 23 aesthetically modern, attached townhomes nestled among mature live oak trees and walking paths. The development offers a safe and attractive environment centered around shared outdoor living spaces that fosters a strong sense of community. Ideally situated in the growing South Menchaca Neighborhood, Industry Soma is within walking distance of local parks, shops, and public transportation—making it a great addition to the area.
“We designed Industry Soma with the modern Austin family in mind—delivering high-quality, attainable housing that serves the city's underserved ‘missing middle,” says Mark Odom, Founding Principal, Mark Odom Studio. “Industry Soma exemplifies how urban infill projects can offer long-term wealth building through ownership, quality programming and construction for meaningful, long term, housing needs.”
