Tech Is Creeping Further Into the Homebuying Process

Not only are homebuyers implementing AI into their purchasing process, they're also more interested in buying homes built through technological advancements

Technology is weaving its way into the homebuying process, with more Americans open to using AI to assist them when purchasing a home. Further, more Americans are interested in buying homes that are built through technological innovations, such as 3-D printing.

A recent report from online lending platform LendingTree shows that 72% of Americans would use AI for at least one homebuying or selling task, and about 49% of consumers say they would buy a 3-D printed home.

Americans are bringing AI into the purchasing process, but many still want human involvement

Americans are turning to technology when it comes to the purchasing process. Online home search sites and apps are the most used tech, with 34% of Americans using them in their search process, but AI tools follow at 15%. For those using AI, 38% say they use AI to help research neighborhoods, 35% say they use it to search for homes, and 33% say they use it to estimate home values.

When it comes time to make a deal, most consumers still say they prefer human involvement. However, as more Americans lean on AI for their early search process, understanding Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and how to make your content visible to AI search engines has become more important for sales and marketing teams.

3-D printing is growing in popularity due to its affordability

Just under half of Americans say they would consider purchasing a 3D-printed home, and only 25% would rule it out entirely. Additionally, 36% say they believe this type of construction could make homeownership more affordable.

Still, some Americans have concerns about buying a 3-D printed home

Some Americans still express concerns over non-traditionally built homes. Of those surveyed, 40% of consumers expressed durability as their top concern, and 39% cited construction quality as their top concern. An additional 29% say they’re concerned about resale value.
