Maps Show Where the Renters Are

Recent Census Bureau data reveals that the U.S. homeownership rate has declined to 63.4 percent, the lowest since 1967, CityLab reports.

To illustrate the comparison between renters and homeowners in the U.S., journalist and web developer Ken Schwenke designed dot-covered maps of major cities. Red dots represent renters, while blue dots represent homeowners.

Urban core areas tend to have more renters, and homeowners are more prevalent in the suburbs. In Atlanta and Detroit, the spread is more diffused.
