Last year, suburban population growth outpaced city growth for the first time this decade. While a dozen or so cities still reign over suburbs, almost none of them are in the South or Southwest.
According to Fortune, Sun Belt suburbs have been booming, outpacing both Sun Belt cities and Snow Belt suburbs.
From Phoenix to Nashville, from San Antonio to Charlotte, suburbs in the lower half of the nation are faring well.
To be sure, this is just one data point: It could be a blip on the radar. Then again, it could also be the beginning of a return to Americans’ historic migration to sunny suburbs. The fastest growing metro area last year? Cape Coral Florida.
