Housing’s big shift is around the corner

There will be a seismic shift in real estate in the next 20 years, RealtyTrac says, as the aging Baby Boomer population will begin to downsize and sell their homes.

A study from Harvard predicts that this “Big Shift” could lead to an unprecedented number of America’s aging population facing a lower standard of life, or even financial hardship. Though many surveys find that aging Americans today wish to age in place, it still unclear whether this will happen or whether new housing trends will encourage many to move from larger homes to smaller dwellings.
