California has some of the highest house prices in the nation, and one small section of Atherton in the Bay Area has the most expensive homes of all.
Through data from GOBankingRates and Zillow, CNBC found the most expensive ZIP codes in each state. Atherton's 94027 ranked first in the nation, with a median home value of $6,177,000.
Situated next to Palo Alto and Menlo Park, the wealthy Silicon Valley town is a short drive from Facebook's headquarters and home to numerous tech executives, including Sheryl Sandberg and Meg Whitman.
Most other leading ZIP codes are nowhere near as pricey. The majority of the state’s most expensive ZIP codes are under $1 million, with 04270 in Oxford, Maine, the lowest in the nation at $127,400.
