The Fremont (Calif.) Unified School District is issuing developer report cards based on how much a developer has contributed toward adequate classroom space to accommodate children from new housing developments.
The district’s report cards range from A, for developers who pay the full cost of extra students, to F, for those who pay only the state-required amount. The state requires developers to pay $5.70 per square foot of new construction to offset the costs of additional students, but the district has said it costs $17.22 per square foot to build schools.
