In the wake of three powerful Atlantic hurricanes this year that caused widespread power outages, some homeowners may find solar panels and batteries more attractive options. A Fast Company report relates how an Orlando, Fla., homeowner managed to power air conditioning, refrigeration, and internet service after a transformer in his neighborhood blew out, knocking out power. The homeowner had installed Tesla’s Powerwall battery system that was charged by rooftop PVs. Powerwall systems can also power Tesla’s electric cars, and that can be a real plus if there is a shortage of gas after a natural disaster.
