November saw a 90 percent increase in the number of contracts signed between Northern Virginia homebuyers and sellers, just after Amazon announced plans to build a new headquarters in the area.
MarketWatch reports that the region saw 1,046 contracts signed in November, compared to just 533 in November 2018. Pending sales overall were up 11.5 percent, while in Arlington, closer to the proposed Amazon site, they rose 46 percent
“Demand will drive sales,” the president of the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors, Lorraine Arora, said. “If we could only create a solution for our affordable housing challenge: our inventory is lean at low price points and that must change.”
