When smart home technology becomes confusing and overwhelming, Amazon will literally be there to help.
The Seattle Times reports that the tech giant is rolling out Smart Home Consultation, where advisers go to consumers’ homes to demonstrate and recommend smart home products. The service is now available in several major West Coast markets, including Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
The appointments are free and last 45 minutes. Users can try out devices and create shopping lists, and consultants, who are Amazon staffers, check for the strength of the home’s Wi-Fi signal.
The consultation service serves another Amazonian ideal: reduce any friction that might impede shopping. The emerging field of home automation is confusing to many consumers, and not everything works very well, making customized recommendations valuable.
