By HZ Staff February 21, 2013

An official ceremony was recently held to break ground for the city of Durham's first Del Webb community, Carolina Arbors by Del Webb. Targeted toward residents age 55 and older, Carolina Arbors sprawls across 460 acres and consists of 1,275 single-family ranch homes with a 30,000-square-foot amenity center.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by local politicians, community leaders and representatives of Del Webb, was designed to familiarize the local community with the unique features and amenities of Carolina Arbors, as well as unveil renderings of the community and amenity center.  Construction is expected to begin immediately, with the first models projected for completion by summer 2013.  Residents will be able to start moving in as early as this summer.

Carolina Arbors is in close proximity to the vibrant Brier Creek area, which is best known as the premier outdoor shopping mall in the Durham market with more than two million square feet of retail space. Additionally, there are more than 40 restaurants within a two-mile radius of Carolina Arbors.

Carolina Arbors is in the heart of the Triangle and convenient to Duke, UNC, and Wake Med hospitals, as well as the Raleigh-Durham (RDU) International Airport, boating, biking, hiking, fishing, continuing education, cultural events, plays, shows, collegiate sports, and NHL.

Pre-sale opportunities for the first phase of development begin Feb. 26, and a retail sales office is now open to the public in Brier Creek at Brier Creek Parkway and Little Brier Creek Lane. A site grand opening with 11 completed designer-decorated models and sales pavilion is planned for this summer.

Amenities at Carolina Arbors will feature an approximate 30,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art amenity center with a heated indoor pool, ballroom, and activity rooms, and a teaching kitchen. Outdoor amenities will feature extensive greenway trails, pickle ball, tennis and bocce courts, an outdoor pool, community garden, and dog park.

Carolina Arbors will offer a variety of beautifully designed two-car garage single-story floor plans ranging from 1,152 to 2,562-plus square feet with loft options. Dramatic open floor plans will include spacious great rooms, large walk-in master suite closets, generous storage, and great outdoor living spaces in both the front and rear of the homes.  Base pricing ranges from the mid $190s to the mid $300s.
