Nearly one out of 10 retirees have an annual income below the poverty line, according to Census Bureau data. Others are set for a stable financial future, concentrated most densely in 10 communities.

The top community in the ranking was The Villages in Florida. According to SmartAsset, "Over 96 percent of seniors own their home and 64.5 percent of seniors have income saved for retirement." Though the community ranked first in four out of the six metrics, its lowest score was in retirement income, as the average household has a combined $58,300 in retirement income, however this was the third-most in the study.

Our list ends in the third Arizona city to crack our top 10, Mesa. Seniors here do not tend to have the highest incomes, but they should live a comfortable retirement. The average senior household has an income of $44,700, around average for this study, and 83 percent of seniors own their homes. Another boost to retirement prospects in Mesa: Over 52 percent of senior households have retirement income. Additionally only 5 percent of senior households here use food stamps a top-20 rate.
