To receive this honor, a company must best represent energy value and the award program’s goals--a commitment to market the benefits of energy efficiency. The company that demonstrates these things in practice and in spirit is Medallion Homes of San Antonio. In its mission statement Medallion states, "Our commitment is to deliver value to our customers through energy efficient products, materials and building practices." President John Friesenhahn explains that the five-year-old home building company delivers on this mission through

  • conscientious design practices that achieve high energy performance;

  •

  • systematic quality checks, and

  •

  • diagnostic testing to ensure proper installation of efficiency features.

    This commitment is also the company’s sales advantage in the competitive new-home market in San Antonio. Medallion Homes’ web site, www.medallionhomes.com, highlights the energy value of each new home. In addition, sales and marketing manager Carrie Gehlbach oversees a marketing and customer relations campaign that includes testimonial advertisements, education of the company’s sales staff and customers and continued follow-up with buyers.

    EVHA judge and NAHB energy subcommittee chairman Don DeLess says, "Medallion is one of the few production builders consistently leading the industry in energy-efficient building. It has a market-driven approach to energy efficiency and gains a competitive edge by offering buyers features that other builders in the same bracket don’t."
