Hottest Housing Markets Shifting in April

The golden era of the Golden State as the hottest housing market in the nation may be losing steam, according to Realtor.com. Their data show that Midland, Texas and Boston are the top two markets today.

San Francisco, "longtime top dog," took third place in April 2018 in Realtor.com's listing. The markets that moved up most were Detroit, up 13 spots, Rochester, N.Y., rising 14 spots, Racine, Wisc. got hotter by 28 spots from March of this year, and Columbus, Ohio hit its highest rank recorded by the website, number four. By contrast, Santa Cruz, Calif. had the greatest drop of the top 20 cities, down nine spots to 15. San Jose, Calif. dropped 7 spots, and Vallejo, Calif. and Colorado Springs, Colo. fell three.

Each month we rank the top metro areas where homes sell the fastest, and where eager house hunters are clicking up a storm on our listings. And each month, California reliably hogs the greatest share of the top 20 spots of any state. But while 11 of the top 20 markets in March could be found in the Golden State, in April, that tally had fallen to only six. That's the lowest number since we started doing this ranking, in 2013.
