According to the Associated General Contractors of America, the Houston area has lost 37,000 construction jobs, more than double the next biggest metro-area job loser, Birmingham-Hoover, Ala. But with respect to the city’s total available construction openings, Houston saw only a 2 percent drop between August 2015 and August 2016, while Birmingham-Hoover lost 6 percent of its total construction employment.
