The State of New Jersey fined a contractor $1.1 million and banned him from doing business in the state after he allegedly deceived elderly homeowners into buying unnecessary chimney repair and maintenance work.

State officials said that B&K Masonry & Chimney also did either shoddy work or did not perform the work it was hired to do.
