A Forbes column by contributor Joel Kotkin reports that “Houston is the Chicago of this era,” with 255,000 manufacturing jobs available. Though Houston still lags behind Los Angeles with 360,000 manufacturing jobs and Chicago with 314,000, in six years Houston’s manufacturing workforce has increased by 5 percent, whereas Los Angeles has lost 13 percent and Chicago 11 percent. The trend is becoming evident throughout the nation – since 2010 the U.S. has added 647,000 manufacturing jobs.
