Appliance companies have been tracking the shifts in consumer expectations and lifestyles for a while. “While some trends come and go, others remain popular for years,” Better Homes and Gardens reports.

Trends that are here to stay include the demand for energy efficiency, having appliances connect to a smart phone, and replacing incandescent lighting with LED.

When it comes to design and appearance, more buyers are looking at alternatives to stainless steel. “Two new trends in appliance finishes that are becoming more popular are white ice and slate,” the article says, adding that white ice is a more refined take of standard white appliances with mirrored glass and silver accents, while slate is a muted gray that “resists fingerprints, washes easily, wears well, and holds magnets.”

“Today’s homeowners are more concerned than ever with energy efficiency, home connectivity and the new alternatives in appliance materials. You can apply this knowledge to your advantage in setting up and selling a property today,” the article suggests.
