Neighborhood watch signs — displayed on trees, telephone poles and signposts in parks and on streets — give potential homebuyers mixed messages. While it’s comforting to know the community is active in looking out for crime and protecting itself, the signs indicate that something is up. Why would a peaceful neighborhood have to form a watch group in the first place?
Realtor.com spoke with realtors who offered their opinions on whether the signs were good or bad for property values.
Cara Ameer, a Realtor in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., said in the piece that “The fact that the sign is posted begs the question why and what has transpired. It is definitely something that a buyer would notice and question regarding the safety and security of the neighborhood. If it is concerning for buyers who may hesitate moving into the neighborhood, I think these signs could negatively affect property values.”
