Thousands of New Jersey homeowners were victims of contractor fraud that has come to be known as “the disaster after the disaster” in the years following Hurricane Sandy.
Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato has already secured 49 indictments involving Sandy-related fraud, and there are another 50 active investigations. The contractors are alleged to each have victimized an average of four to five homeowners, with several accused of defrauding 20 to 30 clients.
