The subset of Millennials born in the 1980s are coming of age, and it is shaping the housing market.
Mike Willinger of John Burns Real Estate Consulting writes about “Sharers,” a group of 44 million Americans between the ages of 26 and 35. The name is derived from the generation’s tendency to share their lives on social media, to use sharing economy services, and, yes, share a home with parents. Many sharers, though, are starting to move out and start their own lives.
Willinger notes that sharers, himself included, desire housing features like dedicated work space for telecommuting and a good suburban location close to retail.
