A recent Redfin study shows that homeownership for teachers is still possible in many parts of the country, especially along the Rust Belt and in pockets of the South. The Detroit metro area topped the list of areas with the most affordable housing for teachers, with nearly half the homes on the market within reach on the average teacher salary of $68,077. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia also made the top five.
