Of the nation’s 50 largest metros, Washington D.C. has the highest share of adults who work for an employer full time.
A new poll from Gallup reveals that Washington’s good jobs rate is 54.6 percent, a few percentage points higher than the Minneapolis, Austin, and Salt Lake City markets.
Boosted by federal workers, Washington has had the highest share of good jobs for each of the last three years. Many of the cities that fared the best in the rankings, such as the state capitals, Seattle, San Jose, and Boston, have plenty of jobs in the thriving tech industry.
As the national Gallup Good Jobs rate rose to 45.5% in 2016 from 44.8% in 2015, more than twice as many large metros (35) showed improvement as lost ground (14). The biggest gains came in Indianapolis, San Diego and Milwaukee.
