While $50,000 a year is a little less than the median household income in the U.S., it’s still enough money to live comfortably in many cities around the country.
Through a new report on affordability from GOBankingRates, Business Insider sorted 19 cities where a salary of $50,000 can be comfortably split between necessities (50 percent), discretionary items (30 percent), and savings (20 percent).
Cities that made the list include Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Memphis, and San Antonio. Several medium-size cities, such as Colorado Springs, Colo., Fresno, Calif., Lexington, Ky., and Wichita, Kan., also made the cut.
The income needed for each city was determined by monthly expenses — housing, groceries, utilities, transportation, and health insurance — for a single person.
