To combat the labor shortage plaguing the construction industry, the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Maine is sponsoring a residential carpenter apprenticeship program.
Pro Remodeler reports that enrollees will receive 4,000 hours of paid, on-the-job training and 288 hours of classroom instruction.
The program costs students $2,400 each, but if a student is hired while still in the program, the remodeler or builder is required to pay their tuition. To encourage hiring, the state will reimburse half of the tuition the company pays.
