There are good reasons why cities such as Austin, Madison, and Nashville are drawing so much buzz with young people.
Realtor.com ranked the best cities to launch a career, based on factors including job and business growth, high salaries, affordability, and a happiness index. All three cities made the list.
Fort Collins, Colo., ranked first. Unemployment there is low, and several major corporations, from Intel to Anheuser-Busch, have facilities nearby. Though housing isn’t particularly cheap (median home price of $391,400), it’s a much more affordable option than Denver, which is just an hour away.
Other cities on the list include Charlotte, Dallas, and Kansas City, Mo.
Many residents can afford to become homeowners. "Kansas City is probably the most affordable place we’ve ever lived,” says local realtor Libby Tullis. But as in much of the rest of the country, "The market is growing crazy fast."
