Two families in Colorado have filed lawsuits against Weyerhaeuser Company for distributing floor joists that contain a toxic material.
The Greeley Tribune reports that the joists were coated with a flame-resistant formaldehyde-based resin that homeowners allege causes eyes, nose, and throat irritation when the airborne toxins are inhaled.
The complaints stem from people in the Denver metro area who had their homes built by Richmond American Homes. The builder is working with homeowners to replace their joists.
The toxin-coated joists aren’t expected to cause long-term damage to these homeowners, but it may impact their ability to resell their properties.
