Austin, Texas is the best city for veterans, with the lowest veteran unemployment rate in the nation, a strong economy, and appealing quality of life.
A new report from personal finance site WalletHub ranked 100 metros by examining veteran populations, quality of life, local health facilities for veterans, local economies, and employment opportunities. Realtor.com reports that Detroit is one of the worst cities for veterans, with one of the highest numbers of homeless veterans, and a high poverty rate among service men and women.
"Many veterans retire from the military by their mid-30s to mid-40s and need to enter or re-enter the civilian workforce," WalletHub analyst Jill Gonzalez said in a statement. "That's why cities with strong local economies and a job market favoring military skill sets are so important for veterans, with emphasis on the VA health system, as well."
