Whole-home connectivity, the return of black finishes, customizable products and ultramodern design are some of the six trends experts say builders and remodelers should keep in mind.
At the International Builders' Show in Orlando, Florida last month, automated personal assistants and Internet of Things (IoT) tech dominated much of the new products brought to market including appliances, HVAC, plumbing and home security. John Burns Real Estate Consulting says that streamlined installs are also on trend, and that "Katerra's large booth was the poster child for potential labor disruption this year."
Backed by significant consumer research (which has become easier thanks to consumer behavior on websites such as Houzz and Pinterest—and email surveys such as ours), building products companies continue to offer new products to stay one step ahead of the competition. Home builders and remodelers who offer these products will continue to grow their market share, since resale homes do not keep up with these trends.
