San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York did not make the newest list of cities where more Millennials are moving in than moving out.
The Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions were found to have the most cities attracting Millennials these days, according to financial technology company SmartAsset, with five cities each, but Seattle was number one: 29,628 Millennials have moved in, and 22,326 moved out. Seattle's median rent price is $2,700, the second-highest in the study. San Jose's median rent was over $3,300 per month. Cities on the list with more affordable rent prices, about $1,200 (Columbia, S.C., Newport News, Va., and Jacksonville, Fla.), were all on the East Coast, CNBC reports.
Many millennials are still figuring out where they want to settle down, resulting in young people moving both toward and away from several major cities across the U.S. To narrow down which cities are attracting more Millennials than they're losing, SmartAsset compared the number of people between the ages of 20 and 34 who moved to 217 U.S. cities to the number who moved away from them, using 2016 Census Bureau migration data.
