More Builders Offering New, Affordable Homes

Despite the rising cost of land, materials, and labor, large home builders with a national presence are bringing small new-home communities to the market, priced at the entry level. 

D.R. Horton, Centex Homes, and Ashton Woods are building starter homes for first-time homebuyers with trendy and affordable products. Georgia-based builder Ashton Woods launched its affordable home line Starlight Homes in 2017. Ashton chief marketing officer Carrie Schonberg says, "We specifically introduced Starlight Homes to address the growing entry-level buyer,” telling Forbes, “Everyone deserves the chance to make their home a reality without breaking the bank. We felt we had the opportunity to do something really different, something really special, in the entry-level market.”

Just 27 miles from Atlanta, something unique is happening. Princeton Village, a new-home community by Centex Homes in Palmetto, Georgia, is going up. Homes at Princeton Village start in the high-$100,000s, a steal in any housing market in the country. What’s more, homebuyers can choose from three-, four- and five-bedroom single-family homes with plenty of features. The homes come with an extended warranty and energy-efficient features. A community pool and tennis courts are a few of the family-friendly amenities.
