Redfin combined its most valuable home trend data with design and DIY site Hunker’s experience to identify major design trends coming to homes this year. Several of these trends have been growing for years while some gained momentum in 2020, such as homes that offer bonus spaces that double as an office. These flex areas offer dedicated workspaces when needed and function as guest rooms or separate living spaces when not needed. Redfin says this is one of the home trends here to stay. Homeowners also look to their kitchens as a place that needs high-quality and stylish design. With more Americans using their kitchens in 2020, they need to be as functional as they are beautiful.
Home Design Trend 2: Stylish kitchens with contrast
While an all-white kitchen is a classic, expect to see bolder palettes — like blue hues, forest greens, and deep charcoals — on island cabinetry, as a contrasting backsplash, or with kitchen furniture. We’ll see kitchens continue to incorporate luxe statement lighting and sleek hardware, such as gold faucets and cabinet handles.
