California Modular Builder Breaks Ground in Texas

S2A Modular is preparing to open a new factory for the assembly-line production of smart homes in Waco, Texas. 

The electrically self-sustaining, custom luxury and smart-connected homes, which the company has branded “GreenLux,” will quickly and efficiently cut down an increased market demand to deliver a number of high-end homes to local consumers within weeks. Instead of waiting nine months to a year, your home can be factory-made and shipped to your site and placed on your site in a matter of weeks. The fast production strategy revolutionizes a building industry looking to adapt to competitive post-pandemic job and real estate markets. 

S2A calls its facilities MegaFactories and aims to build 35 net positive, carbon neutral factories across the country and stretching into Canada, Haiti and Puerto Rico. Just one factory running a single shift is anticipated to build 500 homes in its first year and 1,000 by the third year. 

S2A Modular spokesperson Robert Knoll said the builder would offer home models ranging from 690 to 4,100 square feet, and priced at $149 to $169 square feet, the more expensive models with features including solar panels and energy storage systems.

“They are pre-designed, but any of the plans can be customized for customers. They will work with you to build the home you want,” Knoll said. “They can be of unlimited square footage. You’re only limited by your imagination. Instead of waiting nine months to a year, your home can be factory-made in a matter of weeks and shipped to your site and placed on your site in a matter of weeks. The major advantage is these homes are built in a controlled environment, with kiln-dried lumber and precision cuts.”
