Rhode Island-based RI Housing recently launched Housing Search R.I., a free online database designed to help low-income tenants find affordable housing, while also allowing landlords to advertise their properties.
Each home or apartment listing includes location, property characteristics, potential move-in dates, amenities, and images, and according to WPRI 12 News, the database also offers an affordability calculator, which can help tenants determine whether a property's monthly rent is affordable based on their income.
Renters shouldn’t be spending more than 30% of their income on housing and utilities, according to RI Housing.
For example, if someone makes $50,000 annually, that person shouldn’t spend more than $1,250 on rent and utilities, according to the calculator.
