The typical resident of Duluth, Minn., experiences a short work week, a brief commute, and a long night’s sleep. SmartAsset ranked Duluth the least-stressed city in the nation, topping other easy-going places including Madison, Wis., and Iowa City, Iowa.
The list was based on nine factors, such as local unemployment rates, housing costs, and divorce rates.
Boulder, Colo., and Santa Fe, N.M., finished fourth and fifth, each boosted by physical activity rates and the density of nearby entertainment options.
New Jersey is one of the most stressed out states in our study. This state contains two of the five most-stressed cities and four of the 16 most-stressed. Particularly troubling for New Jersey residents are the long commute times. In cities like Jersey City and Newark, residents spend an average of almost 40 minutes getting to work.
