Built in 2009, Minnesota’s first high efficiency passive house has a five-year track record to analyze. The 2,800-square-foot house has incurred an average of just $6.70 for utilities per month.
The initial cost of the home, $1.1 million, was steep at more than $400 per square foot, but the cost to build a similar home today could be much less. The home’s architect says that he just completed a low-energy home in Northeast Minneapolis for $195 a square foot.
