Utah’s population rose 2.03 percent since last year, making it the fastest-growing state in the U.S., according to data from the Census Bureau.
MarketWatch reports Nevada, Idaho, and Florida also experienced large population increases over the last year.
North Dakota, which had led the way for the past four years, plunged out of the top 10, and actually saw a net exodus as the energy boom turned bust. North Dakota wasn't the only state that got hit with population decline. New York, Pennsylvania and Wyoming — all of which grew a year earlier — were among the eight states in the red.
Texas gained the most total residents (432,957) and Illinois lost the most people (37,508) since the end of 2015.
