Homeowners and researchers in San Antonio say that a program to replace roofs with lighter colored material is accomplishing its goals of reducing temperatures inside homes and lowering utility bills.
Ten disadvantaged homeowners who own historic homes have had their roofs replaced in the last year. Researchers say indoor temperatures have declined by as much as 23 degrees as a result. The city is reportedly working with a local utility on a rebate program to encourage more roof replacements.
