Pittsburgh has reinvigorated its downtown by adding theaters, performing arts centers, urban parks, and bars and eateries. The new attractions helped the region amass $7.8 billion in tourism revenue in 2014, which is pretty good for a quintessential Rust Belt city.
Realtor.com named 10 cities where the downtown is making a comeback. Several other industrial hubs, such as Columbus, Providence, and Detroit, made the list, as did Los Angeles, Chicago, and Austin, Texas.
Over the last few years, Indianapolis has added biking and walking trails, Oakland has lured job-creating tech companies, and Dallas has opened an urban park and farmers’ market.
