The number of open construction sector jobs on a seasonally adjusted basis was 147,000 in January, down nearly 100,000 from a cycle high set last July, according to data from the BLS Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.
NAHB Eye on Housing says that job growth is continuing for the building and remodeling sectors. The open position rate dropped to 2.1 percent in January, and the hiring rate reached 5.9 and 5.6 percent in December and January, the best two months since 2014.
Over the last 12 months home builders and remodelers have added 136,000 jobs on a net basis. Since the low point of industry employment following the Great Recession, residential construction has gained 724,600 positions.
