Experts predict the housing market to be healthy in 2018, though diminished enthusiasm for homebuying may cause a ripple effect.
In a new survey commissioned by Trulia to take the temperature of U.S. housing market sentiment for 2018, the 2,000 respondents suggested a trend of curbed optimism toward homebuying. 25 percent of respondents think 2018 will be a better year to buy a home than 2017 was, while another 25 percent believe it will be a worse homebuying climate.
Last year, the share of Americans telling us that homeownership is part of their personal “American Dream” fell for the first time since 2011. For proponents of homeownership, we have some good news: that drop appears to have been a one-off decline, rather than a start of a trend.
