Florida was recently named the best in the United States for retirement. In the latest ranking, all 50 states were scored based on affordability, quality of life, and health care.
WalletHub's 2018 retirement ranking found that Florida, a state commonly associated with retirement, suits its reputation with the largest share of residents 65 years and older, and tops the competition with overall affordability, per Business Insider. Minnesota had the top score for quality of life and health care, but ranked 42nd in affordability of all 50 states. Colorado, the second-best state overall, ranked second-best in health care, eighth in quality of life, but 23rd in affordability.
If you are looking to be entertained in retirement, New York might be a good option. Despite the state's lackluster overall rating for retirement, WalletHub's analysis found that the Empire State has the most museums and theaters per capita. The same state — Minnesota — can claim to have the best quality of life and health care. However, a low score on the affordability measure kept Minnesota from being one of the best overall states for retirement.
