A recent report from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) found that elevators are among the least popular home features.
The data comes from the 2019 edition of the NAHB’s report, “What Do Home Buyers Really Want.” Survey participants were asked to rank amenities on a four-tier scale of ‘do not want’, ‘indifferent’, ‘desirable’, and ‘essential/must have’. In this case, ‘do not want’ indicated that homebuyers were unlikely to purchase a home with that feature.
Sixty-six percent of respondents indicated that they did not want an elevator in their building, which makes sense given that the majority of respondents wanted to live in single-family homes. Other unpopular features included wine cellars (57 percent did not want), a plant-covered roof (50 percent), and a nearby daycare center (50 percent).
