The "color revolution" in kitchens is making its way from high-end homes to the middle-priced market, according to the latest industry research.
Along with emphasis on transitional space, more tech, secondary functional space, and less clutter, The Washington Post identifies 10 kitchen trends for 2019. One noteworthy change coming to the kitchen is a change in appliance configuration. Rather than a single, standard 30 to 36-inch refrigerator width, homeowners can install customized fridge and freezer drawers or columns throughout the kitchen for added flexibility. Microwaves and dishwashers can also be styled as drawers and put in nontraditional locations.
“Blue is the most repeated color we’re seeing in kitchens, and it crops up in many styles of kitchens,” says Elle H-Millard, industry relations manager for the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).
Recent surveys, including the 2019 Kitchen Design Trends report from the NKBA and the 2019 Kitchen Trends study from Houzz, reveal subtle and not-so-subtle shifts in kitchen designs, including the new appetite for color.
