With all the available technology out there for builders, why isn’t it easier and faster to build? Instead, construction schedules get longer and longer every year.
Scott Sedam, TrueNorth Development founder and president, asked in Pro Builder’s November/December 2020 issue, “Where’s the home building technology revolution?”
To that question, builders wrote in sharing their experiences and difficulties with all the available technology. Sedam discusses the technological issues builders often face and why the industry may not be as receptive (hint: it’s not just a “cultural issue”).
“What’s made it even more difficult than it was 10, 12 years ago is because now there are so many software packages,” says Sedam. “We had a lumber dealer come in in Houston … he said one of the biggest problems he has right now is he has to interface with 12 different software packages. He said builders never think of that.”
