A small number of homeowners across the United States are living in replica homes — knockoffs of everything from the White House to the Petit Trianon at the Palace at Versailles and the house from the Disney movie “Up.” Other replica owners are drawn to period architecture, building homes that are based on a governor’s mansion or the buildings of Colonial Williamsburg. Replicas aren’t stress-free however; in some cases, the homeowners are required to obtain certain building permits, and finding a buyer when it’s time to sell can be difficult.
